The
need to study media manipulation.
The main reason and need to study manipulative journalism is to protect true democracies
and the public from manipulation by a small elite which through media manipulation selects
and installs puppet regimes and defies democracy. To do this we have to understand the
methods being used.
Totalitarian journalism.
Before we can understand modern manipulative journalism we have to review totalitarian
journalism. Totalitarian journalism is the most obvious, the most simple and the least
effective attempt to manipulate the public opinion and politics through media. In
totalitarian journalism everything is either white or black, there are few shades of grey.
The friends of the totalitarian regime are invariably painted as "white"
(positive) while the adversaries of the totalitarian regime are just as invariable painted
as "black" (negative). In totalitarian journalism there are few shades of grey,
all appears either white or black. The blatant division of all subjects of totalitarian
journalism leaves the reader no doubt to know on whose side they are, whom they support.
While this may appear to the perpetrators of the regime
